Now we are nine

This week KAST Architects is nine years old and building on the success of 2022, the last twelve months have been the busiest ever for our practice as we head towards double figures!

This year we have completed our fourth school for Leicestershire County Council and are continuing to work with Truro City Council on the design of a new community pavilion building for Boscawen Park. Meanwhile our relationship with Treveth has lead to the design for a large mixed use scheme in Penzance, right in the heart of the harbour-side conservation area, providing housing for local people.

We have been designing almost thirty new individual homes across Cornwall and Devon, all at various stages, while a further five have been completed in the last year. We are working with local community groups, including Community Roots in Perranporth and BF Adventure in Halvasso, designing new facilities as they expand on the great work that they do. We are also working on affordable housing schemes and have been developing proposals for key worker accommodation to be rolled out across the county.

Last year, Fairfield Barn was shortlisted for the Build It Awards Best Oak Frame Building, with Still Waters also shortlisted for the Best Architect for an Extension Project. This year, Skiber Barns on the north coast of Cornwall has been shortlisted for two Build It Awards - Best Self Build under £300k and the Best Architect or Designer for a Renovation or Conversion Project.

Perhaps most importantly, we have been consolidating how we as a business operate, building on our B Corp certification in 2022 and committing to further improvements in our environmental, social and corporate governance. We want to improve in a small way, every single day. We now have a plan and are sticking to it.

Thank you as always to our clients, consultants and contractors for their passion and belief. Here’s to a successful 2024…
