KAST Architects is expanding its overseas portfolio by designing a new family home in mid Devon. Located in a quiet village setting, the proposal is for a two-storey, five bedroom replacement dwelling, designed to make full use of the garden while also enjoying the far-reaching views of the nearby river and rolling hills to the south west.
The design places the open plan kitchen / dining room / day room on the ground floor, feeding onto a generous terrace with a southerly aspect. A children’s play room and arts and crafts space is discretely located nearby, while the main family lounge is self contained beyond the double height entrance foyer and stairwell. Upstairs are four bedrooms, plus a further family room, with access onto a generous balcony space.
An efficient planform helps with the overall environmental efficiency of the house, which will be primarily timber framed, with high levels of insulation and air-tightness, triple glazing throughout and a combination of timber cladding and traditional clay bricks.
