location: Truro, Cornwall
The project is for a new self-build family home within an infil site in the centre of Truro in Cornwall. The densely overgrown site has a number of trees on it of varying quality, and working closefly with a Landscape Architect and Arboriculturalist we designed a scheme that nits in and around the tree root protection zones, keeping the better specimens, removing those that are suffering from lack of light, and supplementing the perimeter planting with new growth.
The low-key single storey timber frame house will sit on discreet mini piles, raising the structure off the woodland floor. The building will be clad in cedar shingles and topped off with a bio-diverse green roof. The super-insulated frame will help keep occupants warm in the winter, while the natural shade offered by the trees will keep the structure cool in the summer.
The design is in the pre-planning stage.
