STILL WATERS

Clients: Kirstie and Steve

Location: Trolver Croft, Cornwall

Completed: 2020

Alterations to the internal walls of the existing bungalow have resulted in a clear and considered layout, allowing for easier movement between spaces.

"Buildings are a collaboration of client, architect and builder. KAST’s connections and networks in Cornwall to helped us to deliver our dream house.”

Kirstie, Client

Set in a wonderfully secluded location overlooking Restronguet Creek, Still Waters is a whole house renovation and extension of a tired old bungalow. While the surface features of the existing house needed replacing, the core structure was sound and provided a solid base for the extensive remodelling.

The new timber frame extension is clad in stained and natural timber, and the form echoes that of the existing bungalow. Care has been taken to limit the building’s visual impact from neighbouring properties and nearby vantage points.

Upstairs the bedrooms are tucked within the roof space, with carefully positioned windows capturing views of the water.

Meanwhile, the existing bungalow has been re-roofed and rendered, with extra insulation ensuring a comfortable internal environment.

“It was a pleasure to work with the team at KAST for our project. They pushed us to get the best out of our budget and challenged us to maximise our home's potential. Their fresh thinking and creativity opened our imagination and developed our house in ways we’d never think of.”
