South Coast Offices

client: Private

value: Undisclosed

location: South Coast, Cornwall

We were asked to design a speculative office development on the periphery of an existing farm, which also included the creative reuse of some traditional stone barns.

Consequently our approach in designing this new development was to reinterpret the farmstead. In doing so we introduced a series of barn-type structures enclosing farmyard style courtyards. Socially the courtyards promote a sense of community - shared areas where co-workers from different organisations can come together to have lunch or take a break from their work.

In the centre of the development is a multi-purpose pavilion that lends itself well to providing a flexible conference facility or meeting room for larger groups. Materials were chosen for their agricultural relevance, robustness, durability and low cost.
