The sensitive restoration, conversion and extension of an old barn structure on the north coast of Cornwall

The barn's existing walls will be sensitively restored using local stone and lime mortar, ensuring the existing structure and it's characterful quirks are retained and celebrated. To create adequate head room, new walls resting on the existing stone will be clad in charred timber and recessed to allow the difference between new and old to be clearly read. The building will have a simple agricultural appearance reflecting the local vernacular.

The building plan is clearly divided into two elements that lie either side of the main internal stone wall. On the one side are the bedrooms, while on the other is the main living accommodation.

Full planning approval was granted in April 2018.
