Sea Edge House
location: Downderry, Cornwall
This replacement dwelling is located on the cliff edge in the village of Downderry on the South Coast of Cornwall. The design maximises the uninterrupted views out to sea by utilising the existing topography of the site to full effect. Meanwhile the roof profile is kept low to maintain the outlook for properties further inland. Entry is gained via the upper level, with a full open plan layout. The dining area has a framed view to the south and west, while the lounge benefits from sliding doors opening onto a 10m wide south facing balcony. An external staircase allows for quick access down to the garden.
"Kast immediately had the vision to sketch an outline plan which captured both the view and our desire for a modern open plan design. The final home is almost identical to the initial concept sketched on the back of an envelope."
