client: Staffordshire County Council
value: Competition Entry
location: Huntington, Staffordshire
The building concept emerged through a desire to offer a public face to the new site entrance to the southeast, whilst providing privacy and security to the north and northwest. Common areas are grouped together in a logical and simple arrangement of spaces. The Key Stage 1 & 2 classrooms are offered the best views to the northwest, which allows consistent natural lighting opportunities whilst avoiding excessive solar gain and glare.
The main hall and library are located at the heart of the building. These spaces open up to discreet courtyards, offering peace and sanctuary in one, whilst the other provides opportunities for a kitchen garden and learning landscape. The reception classes, nursery, community facilities and school offices are located to the southeast, providing a public and more accessible face to the building.
