Anns Grove Primary

client: Sheffield City Council

value: £4.1m

location: Heeley, Sheffield

The brief from Sheffield LEA and the School called for a building of outstanding design, which would provide an inspiring atmosphere for teaching and learning. The resulting design uses optimum orientation and natural ventilation and daylight to ensure a healthy environment that supports concentration and wellbeing. The building is super-insulated, using a combination of recycled textile (denim) insulation and recycled newspaper. Good quality, well positioned glazing gives high levels of natural light and the use of a fully automated window opening system has avoided the reliance on mechanically ventilated spaces.

The new school building both complements and expands the community and environmentally led regeneration of Heeley and provides the staff and students with an inspiring and stimulating environment.
